Tara Maharjan

I grew up in a middle-class Hindu family and did not have access to proper education, so I was very naive. I got married very young, and my life suddenly changed from being a child to carrying adult responsibilities, with no one to guide me.

My testimony began after I married my husband. At first, we lived with his parents, who strongly followed Hindu traditions and superstitions. It was hard for me to adjust, but my husband supported me. When we lost our first baby at seven months, our hearts were broken. We moved to the city hoping for a fresh start, but we were young and inexperienced, and it was the hardest season of my life.

Soon after, I became pregnant again. Because of our first loss, I lived in fear. We went to temples, priests, and fortune tellers, but nothing gave us peace. Then we heard that churches were places of comfort and healing. My husband started going with a Christian friend. I was afraid at first, worried about disappointing my family and the God I grew up believing in. After six months, I went with him and that changed my life.

I didn’t know how to pray, but God heard my heart. When our baby got sick, my husband’s family would blame us for leaving our old beliefs, but God gave me strength to keep trusting Him. I found peace in church and slowly learned how to pray and have faith.

God began to change our lives. My husband found steady work, and I gave birth to our daughter. I worked as a house helper and met many Christian families who taught me how to raise children with Christian values. Later, with support from the Watt family, our daughter became the first in our family to attend university abroad.
Today, despite everything we faced, we are a family of six and were recently blessed with our first grandson this July. Through it all, God has taught us gratitude and faith. This is my greatest testimony.
