A Jesus Mission

Luke & Hannah Buescher

Missionaries | Gulu, Uganda

Luke and Hannah Buescher serve in Gulu, Uganda.

Luke was called to the mission field as a teenager and began missionary work in Chihuahua, Mexico at the age of 19. He served there for two and a half years, and after another year of seeking God’s direction in the U.S., he moved to Gulu, Uganda. in 2017. He worked with an organization that focuses on Biblical training for pastors for eight and a half years.

Luke and Hannah met in 2022 while Luke was visiting family in the U.S.. Hannah had been serving the local church and community on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation in Montana for four years as she worked there as a schoolteacher. Hannah moved to Uganda later that year. She lived with a local family and focused on language learning as she and Luke continued to get to know each other. We were married in 2023! We have one daughter.

We are now serving the local church and community by welcoming young men to live on our property with us for a year-long lifestyle discipleship program that builds foundations for family, biblical literacy, education, and work. We see that transformation comes through relationships, first with God and secondly with people. We long for Christ to be formed in us as well as others.

Below are a few verses and quotes that have shaped our calling and vision in ministry:

“And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.” 2 Cor. 3:18

“How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity…. For there the Lord bestows his blessing, even life forevermore.” Psalm 133

“Slowly, unwillingly, I began to see what God had been trying to teach me. He hadn’t called me, really, to be a missionary… He had called me to Himself, to be like His Son, Jesus Christ. And He wanted me to follow Him…..” –Bruce Olson

“There can be no Christianity without community.” –Count Zinzendorf
